"Suite Limpet", a new performance installation work by Dru Colbert in collaboration with Lisa Leaverton, writer/director, will premier in Otter Creek, Mount Desert Island on September 28, 2012. Performances are scheduled for September 28, 29, 30 and October 5, 6 and 7, to begin promptly at 5:45 pm at the Otter Creek Hall. Due to limited seating, all reservations and on line donations in the form of tickets should be made in advance. Proceeds will benefit the Aid Society of Otter Creek.
Audience members are asked to bring binoculars and flashlights for their use during the event, and umbrellas or slickers in case of rain.
This new work, "Limpet", will be the third in a trilogy of performance/installation events that are focused on the landscape, history and folklore of Mt. Desert Island and sited specifically in various locations on the island at different times of the year. Previous works in this series include "Graupel", performed on frozen Somes Pond in January of 2007; and Flotsam, a shadow play performed in 2009 at the Otter Creek Hall and again as part of the Celebration of 250 years on Mt. Desert Island in 2011. These works explore human activity and memory associated with the surrounding landscape, and are intended to conjure "hidden" histories of human occupation and experience on the island that are not covered in the guidebooks or National Park brochures. Suite Limpet will conjure the human history of Otter Creek and its waterfront, remind participants of the connection between humans and the natural world, and evoke a sense of mystery and wonder.
